Our History

Chishawasha Mission was established in 1891 by Jesuits. The school was initially opened for boys only in 1893 and started as a farm school. Approved by the colonial government in 1894, girls were later admitted in 1898.

In the early days, the school was both academic and technical for both boys and girls. Students were taught building, carpentry, gardening, and animal husbandry.

The bedrock of Chishawasha Mission Primary School is on the foundation of Chishawasha Mission — the oldest Catholic Mission in Mashonaland East, and the second oldest in the whole of Zimbabwe. It is at the present moment listed under the curatorship of the National Monuments of Zimbabwe.
